The Lower Marine Rise Package (LMRP) has managed initial success. Of the estimated 12,000 to 24,000 barrels thought to be leaking each day, the LMRP is currently collecting 11,000 barrels of oil. This is good news for the spread of oil as the gushing has been drastically reduced. All of the attempts to quell the oil are merely precursors to the final solution: 2 new relief wells nearby that will permanently seal and replace the current leak.
In the shadow of this good news lay unresolved issues. There is still oil leaking. It may be drastically reduced but there is still oil leaking into the gulf adding to the current spill dubbed as the worst spill in United States history. In an interview with BP, they admitted: “Long-term issues of restoring environments and habitats will be years.” The oil cleanup on the surface may only take several months to remove but it is the oil that has eked its way into wetlands and marshes that will take the longest to diagnose and repair. In addition to the surface oil, massive underwater plumes of oil have been confirmed. The scary part about these killer underwater plumes is the complete lack of information about why these formed, what kind of damage do they inflict and where these plumes going.
BP is taking a very bold stand to this cleanup. In the midst of years of cleanup and hurricane season upon us, BP has promised the US people that BP would restore the Gulf of Mexico and all regions affected by the oil back to their original state, as of the oil leak never happened.
President Obama has been getting involved as well. The “Berm Plan” has been approved where miles and miles of man made berms will be created in the water to stop the oil from spreading onto our shores. President Obama has reiterated his stand that BP will be accountable for their entire cleanup. Oil has reached Panama City, Florida and other Florida coastal cities.
A large criticism directed at BP and the Federal Government is not using all available resources to solve the catastrophe. This is what this site was created for. A place where people can go to and get involved with the cleanup process.
This all started when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded on April 20th killing 11 workers and was left spewing 12,000 to 24,000 barrels of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico.

Can you generate and supply a few personal e-mail addresses, of important people to be notified, so that we can “bombard” them with our message of concern. Something needs to be done, and quick! Money allotted and contracts signed, who’s responsible?
