According to BP’s disaster response website, there are 22,000 personnel deployed in the oil cleanup operations since the explosion and subsequent leak of the deep water horizon. Initially reports guessed at 5000 barrels of oil were leaking a day but, as we now know, 5000 barrels a day is too low of an estimate.
Despite the large operations that BP is deploying, the oil continues to spread farther out to sea and creep its way onto our shores. Yet, for some unknown reason, we have close to 4000 workers ready to clean the oil and still no response from decision makers albeit the continuously spreading oil.
The operation BP has deployed has been one of a kind. Even though much criticism abound, BP is spending 33 million a day on cleanup and containment efforts. Yet the oil still spreads. This gives a perspective on the sheer enormity of this spill. It is this reason that we need to put every person willing to work in the gulf to clean it up and assist BP with containment. Additionally time is running out. Any moment wasted gives the oil more time to spread into currents, wash onto shore, propogate into the ecosystem and wait for a hurricane, since it is hurricane season, to blow it along the shores.
What can the workers do? Recently information has shown that the oil booms, as one of the most endorsed formed of oil containment, are needed in increasing quantities along with the man power to manage. Oil cleanup workers can help deploy more booms and maintain the ones we have. The oil booms left by themselves cannot keep up with the oil.
Ships can be deployed to skim the oil. Individuals from around the world have submitted creative ideas for separating oil from the water in the cleanup process. It is these new ideas that can be used in cleanup.
Teams of workers can patrol the beach removing traces of oil.
Teams can help the local animal species hurt by the oil spill.
Divers can research and investigate the oil effects under water.
Ship captains can man large vessels to capture the oil and water mixture collected.
Engineers can join the BP team to continue finding alternate solutions.
We need to get all the workers and volunteers to the Gulf as soon as possible. BP, the Governors offices, State Officials and the Federal Government need to commit as many resources as possible to the oil cleanup. These decision makers need to know that we, at gulfoilspilljobs.com, have a vast army of willing workers eager to help this crisis.
